JACK-SLAM indoor localization system

JACK-SLAM

A camera-based indoor localization system that gives robots and mobile assets accurate real-time position without beacons or venue modifications.

Visual SLAM

A GPS-like layer for indoor and complex mobile assets

JACK-SLAM is a localization system, not a navigation system. It provides the real-time position needed by robots, trackers, and navigation stacks to make reliable movement decisions indoors.

Instead of installing beacons or modifying the environment, JACK-SLAM uses natural landmarks already visible in the venue: window corners, color variations, shelves, ceiling elements, and other stable features.

  • Works with standard monocular, stereo, or depth cameras.
  • Can run as software or as THE-JACK-BOX ready-to-use hardware.
  • Can work alongside traditional LIDAR navigation systems.
  • Useful for robots, cleaning machines, forklifts, AGVs, and mobile assets.
20 Hz
Position updates up to 20 results per second.
6 DOF
Outputs X, Y, Z location plus Rx, Ry, and Rz rotations.
High precision
Centimeter-level localization for indoor tracking.
9-60 VDC
THE-JACK-BOX can be mounted on many mobile systems.

Highlights

Accurate localization without changing the site

JACK-SLAM is built for real facilities where moving people, changing light, and existing equipment make indoor positioning difficult.

Cost-effective

Uses visual input from standard cameras, avoiding the cost and installation work of beacon infrastructure.

Fleet scalable

Maps can be shared across a fleet, with automatic map updates when the system revisits known areas.

Robust in traffic

Localization is designed to remain useful around humans, robots, forklifts, and other moving objects.

Tracker mode

THE-JACK-BOX can locate a fleet of forklifts or mobile machines in real time to optimize routes and reduce collision risk.

Hardware or software

Deploy the ready-to-use box or integrate JACK-SLAM software into an embedded Linux computer.

Customizable

IpsumTek engineers can adapt interfaces, cameras, sensors, and software behavior for specific applications.

How it works

JACK-SLAM tracks natural landmarks frame by frame

The algorithm identifies 100 to 200 particular points in each image, then tracks them across frames to calculate the instantaneous position of the mobile device carrying the camera.

  • Uses stable points such as ceiling elements, corners, shelves, and color variations.
  • Can operate with cameras turned toward the ceiling for robust fixed features.
  • Works in challenging venues where LIDAR can be temporarily occluded.
  • Can improve map consistency through loop closure.
